A heart attack occurs when the blood flow to a section of the heart muscle becomesblocked. This disease is the leading killer in USA and Europe. The symptoms of anupcoming heart attack can be seen before the attack happened, but normally thesymptoms are ignored. Risk factors
Diabetes is the biggest risk factor for heart attack. Hypertension andHypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol) increasing the risk as well. Other factors assmoking and drinking contribute also. Stress is a big risk factor as well and imbalancein the body system.
Treatment
Early treatment within one hour is the key to avoid damage to the heart muscle andthe patients get Oxygen, Aspirin to prevent further blood clotting, Nitro-glycerine toreduce the workload on the heart and improve blood flow through the coronaryarteries and treatment for chest pain. However, the risk for dying is still very higheven if the treatment is judged as good, because the person must living close to thehospital in order to get an early treatment
Many type of different medicines are used as; Thrombolytics, Beta blockers,Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors, Anticoagulants and AntiplateletMedicines.
