The hormones Incretines
Incretines are a group of hormones which are produced in the small intestine and direct increase the amount of Insulin released from the beta-cells in the pancreas after eating, even before the blood glucose level is increasing. They also decrease the rate of absorption of nutrients to the blood stream by reducing gastric emptying and direct reduce the food intake. The Incretins also inhibit the Glucagon hormones from the alpha-cells in the pancreas. Incretins stimulation of beta-cells causes them to secrete more insulin in response to the same amount of blood glucose.
